Dear Ambassador Froman and Secretary Lew:
At the upcoming Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Ministerial in Hawaii, we urge you to act quickly in completing the negotiating objectives for foreign currency manipulation, which were set by the U.S. Congress in the recent Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation.
Specifically, the Hatch-Wyden amendment to TPA, which received bipartisan support, calls on the USTR to “establish accountability” to curb unfair currency practices by our trade partners. We believe it is in the strong interest of the United States to require that existing international rules on currency manipulation are enforceable in TPP.
We stand ready to assist you and your team on implementing this critical negotiating objective within the TPP so this trade agreement can result in a level playing field for all to compete in the international economy.
Sincerely,
Matt Blunt President
