The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will feature a new 8-speed automatic transmission which will eventually make its way into the option list for the 2016 Corvette Stingray and when it does, the high performance “base” Corvette should most certainly be able to offer better than 30 miles per gallon on the highway.

When the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 hits the street with General Motors’ new 8L90 8-speed automatic transmission, it will mark the first time that a modern super-Vette has been available with a self-shifting transmission. Twenty years ago, it would have been considered total blasphemy for a car like the Corvette Z06 – a car billed as the most track capable Corvette of all time – to be fitted with an automatic transmission, but the vast advancements in automatic transmission technology over the past few years has allowed these self-shifting gearboxes to offer similar (if not better) performance than a manual transmission.
