General Motors plants in Flint are getting national praise from the president of national group of scientists for the company’s commitment to its low-carbon vision.

The Union of Concerned Scientists president Kevin Knobloch applauded GM and CEO Dan Akerson for the low-carbon direction he hopes to see the automaker take in the coming years.

On April 22, Flint Assembly and Metal Center plants were awarded $183,000 by Consumers Energy for steps they took to ensure their commitment to reducing the companies' carbon footprint.
