General Motors launched production today on the redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, the most popular vehicle in the company’s U.S. lineup.

The automaker started assembling the truck at its plant in Silao, Mexico, spokesman Tom Wilkinson confirmed in an email. It will also be made at GM plants in Fort Wayne, Ind. and Flint.

The Silverado, GM’s best-selling vehicle in the U.S. and a critical profit driver, is expected to hit showrooms before the end of the quarter. Its sister vehicle, GMC Sierra, was also redesigned and will be released this quarter.

Mary Barra, GM’s senior vice president for global product development, told reporters on Friday that she’s “really confident” the Silverado will roll out on time.
