WASHINGTON — The General Motors Foundation announced today it is is providing a $1-million grant to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in the nation's capital.

The grant was announced at the Washington Auto Show. The museum, which is under construction on a five-acre site next to the Washington Monument, is scheduled to open next year.

The GM Foundation’s donation is expected to help pay for the design and installation of the museum's permanent exhibitions.
