General Motors will formally announce Thursday its plans to open a technology development center in metro Atlanta.

Speculation about the development, which sources have said could employ up to 1,500, first began in October.

The General Motors IT center will add heft to Atlanta’s reputation as a Southeast tech hub — capable of delivering skilled engineering talent to large corporations, affordably.

With its abundance of tech grads, inexpensive cost of doing business ,and global transportation connectivity, metro Atlanta has drawn several software development centers.
