Ford sold first the first 490 2015 Transit commercial vans in June in the U.S. It is a significant milestone for the European full-size vanthat is being built and sold in North America for the first time.

Today local media get behind the wheel of the new vans for a test drive.

The Transit is offered with a choice of three roof heights, two wheelbases, three body lengths and a gasoline or diesel engine.

Ford spent $1.1 billion to retool its Kansas City plant where almost 5,000 workers on three crews now make the vans. They will also make the new F-150 next year. The plant used to make the Ford Escape.
