CARLISLE — To commemorate the 50th birthday of the Ford Mustang during this week’s Ford Nationals at the Carlisle Fairgrounds, Carlisle Bakery is rolling out a one-of-a-kind edible automobile.

Made from three sheet cakes and two pounds of buttercream icing, Carlisle Bakery is putting the finishing touches on a 1964 Ford Mustang cake. When completed, the cake will feed up to 150 visitors at the Ford Mustang 50th anniversary celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Red 102.3 stage at the Carlisle Fairgrounds.

“I said, ‘You know what would be cool? What if we made a car?’” said Eric Bell, who recently became the new owner of Carlisle Bakery.

Bell received approval from then owner John Bogonis, and was off to the races.
