Automakers, whose products were just as fragile as houses, schools and offices in the path of this week’s tornado, are pledging significant financial and vehicular aid to Moore, Okla.

So far, the Detroit Three, Honda, Volkswagen and Ally Financial have contributed more than $810,000 to relief efforts.

Ford Motor Co. Fund is donating $250,000 to the American Red Cross and will match up to $250,000 in donations from anyone else. To donate to the Red Cross, visit RedCross.org or text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to Oklahoma relief.

A group of Ford dealerships in Oklahoma gave $150,000 to the United Way.

“The impact of these tornadoes is devastating on thousands of families,” said Jim Vella, president of the Ford Fund and Community Services, in a statement. “We know there is great need for assistance, and Ford, its dealers and employees are coming together to provide needed resources.”
