GMC found lots of new ways to give its Terrain SUV a darkened, edgy look -- and it all comes together in the special 2017 Nightfall Edition that will be seen at the New York Auto Show this week.

The vehicle will go on sale this fall and joins the Canyon Nightfall Edition and the all-new Sierra All Terrain X as the latest GMC vehicles to offer a personalized appearance with the Terrain’s premium features.

The Terrain, a compact SUV, has posted increasing sales every year since 2009 when it was introduced, reaching a peak last year of 112,000. But industry sources have reported that a redesign is coming later this year or in early 2017.

Through the first two months of 2016, Terrain sales fell 13% from a year earlier to 17,067. A special edition like the Nightfall is aimed at sustaining interest among shoppers who might be thinking about waiting until next year.

Among options are 18-inch aluminum wheels and gloss black spokes; a charcoal grille with a gloss black surround, gloss black front and rear fascia accents, gloss black rear license plate trim, black outside mirrors and black luggage rails.
