If you grew up in my era, you are quite aware of the Power Wagon from Dodge. Well, the Dodge Ram may be dead, but the Power Wagon is still very much a part of the Ram brand, and it continues into 2017 with a refreshed look paired with the off-road capabilities we expect.
Like the previous model year, the Ram Power Wagon is based on the Ram 2500 4×4 Crew Cab, making it a mammoth pickup truck. For the 2017 model year, however, Ram tweaks its looks to make it a tad more rugged looking. These changes include a grille styled after the Ram 1500 Rebel, new colors and graphics, black headlight bezels, powder-coated front and rear bumpers, 17-inch forged multi-surface aluminum wheels, and blacked-out “RAM” lettering on the tailgate.
The 2017 Power Wagon’s cabin also gets a nice upgrade. In here, buyers will find Diesel Gray and black technical grain seats, enhanced touch points, additional wrapped-and-stitched surfaces, “Power Wagon” startup graphics on the 7-inch center cluster, and more.
Under the hood of the new Power Wagon is a HEMI 6.4-liter V-8 that cranks out a massive 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque—the same as last year’s model. This engine features Chrysler’s Fuel Saver cylinder-deactivation technology to help conserve fuel under light loads.
The HEMI mates to a six-speed auto transmission that hooks up to a manual-engagement Borg Warner 44-47 transfer case. This transfer case ships power to 9.25- and 11.5-inch axles on the front and rear with 4.10-to-1 gear ratios.
