GM Recycles Water Bottles to Make Chevy Equinox Part
Posted on GM MediaGeneral Motors is turning its employees’ recycled water bottles into a new life: noise-reducing fabric insulation that covers the Chevrolet Equinox engine. The bottles – collected from five of its Michigan facilities – are also being turned into air filtration components and insulation in coats for the homeless community.

Ford Redevelopment Plan In Dearborn Estimated At $1.2B
Written by Brent Snavely | Posted on Detroit Free PressFord unveiled sweeping plans today to redevelop dozens of buildings in Dearborn that house more than 30,000 employees in a project that will transform the automaker's presence in the city into two distinct campuses over the next 10 years.
The project, which represents an investment estimated at more than $1.2 billion, is intended to give Ford's employees the work environment and technology necessary to design and develop cars of the future.
In some ways, the massive project, in planning for more than three years, is long overdue.

Ford Establishing Subsidiary To Invest In News Mobility
Written by Associated Press Staff | Posted on Associated PressFord Motor Co. said Friday that it is establishing a Silicon Valley-based subsidiary to build and invest in new mobility options like car-sharing and ride-hailing services.
Ford Smart Mobility LLC will be chaired by former Steelcase CEO Jim Hackett, who has been a member of Ford's board since 2013. Hackett resigned his board seat Friday to lead the new company. Ford Smart Mobility plans to name a CEO in the near future.
The company will operate in Palo Alto, California, and Ford's hometown of Dearborn, Michigan.

Ford Makes Police Car Doors That Stop Armor-Piercing Bullets

Ford will soon be offering the doors on its Police Interceptor sedans and SUVs. They'll be the first in the U.S. to meet the Justice Department's highest standard for body armor, the equivalent of a bulky SWAT team vest.
The doors are designed to stop a .30-caliber bullet shot from a high-powered rifle like an AK-47. That's more powerful ammunition than many soldiers carry.

Chrysler's New Pacifica Minivan Scores On Fuel Economy
Written by Brent Snavely | Posted on USA TODAYThe 2017 Chrysler Pacifica will get a combined fuel economy of 22 miles per gallon, putting it near the top of its class among minivans when it goes on sale this spring.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has previously said the Pacifica will have "unsurpassed" fuel economy among minivans but did not provide specifics.
Now, the EPA has certified the Pacifica at 28 mpg on the highway and 18 mpg in the city for a combined 22 mmpg, according to Fiat Chrysler's website.

GM’s Distribution And It Centers Star In Energy Efficiency

These buildings, which include seven parts distribution centers, a global headquarters office and three IT innovation office centers, have optimized their buildings to leave a smaller carbon footprint.
To earn ENERGY STAR certification, buildings must perform better in energy efficiency than 75 percent of similar buildings nationwide and meet strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.
