A group of 60 senators, led in part by U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., have sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew and the U.S. trade representative asking that concerns about foreign currency manipulation be addressed in talks related to a Pacific Rim trade agreement.

The letter said foreign currency manipulation must be addressed if the Trans-Pacific Partnership or TPP is to meet what the administration has called the “high standards worthy of a 21st century trade agreement.”

Automakers have complained about Japan’s inclusion in the trade deal, arguing that it engaged in currency manipulation and other actions that restrict or block out international automakers.
