In 1974, Jim Wicks had a little picnic with a few fellow Shelby Mustang enthusiasts.

That small gathering continued to grow, and now the Mid America Ford and Shelby Nationals is one of the largest Ford and Shelby meets of the year.

“Last year we had people from 34 states and seven countries,” Wicks said.

And the 40th Mid America Nationals, set for this weekend at various locations around northeast Oklahoma, is set to be one of the biggest yet.

The unique events for this specialty car, which have helped the show grow to this level, offer the chance for Shelby owners and enthusiasts to get their cars out on the track to see what they are really capable of.
