General Motors Co. has four cars in the running for the 2016 North American Car & Truck of the Year, according to a list of semifinalists that has been released.

American Honda Motor Co. Inc. has three vehicles in the running on the short list, while Toyota Motor Corp., Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., Mazda Motor Corp. and Kia Motors Corp. each have two.

GM’s new 2016 Cadillac CT6, the 2016 Chevrolet Volt, 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and 2016 Chevrolet Camaro are semi-finalists for North American Car of the Year. Others on the semifinalist list for Car of the Year include the BMW 7 Series, Honda Civic, Kia Optima, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Nissan Maxima and Toyota Prius.

Twelve vehicles are up for North American Truck/Utility of the Year: Ford Edge, Honda HR-V, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Renegade, Kia Sorento, Lexus RX, Mazda CX-3, Nissan Titan XD, Tesla Model X, Toyota Tacoma and Volvo XC90.

Dozens of automotive journalists in the U.S. and Canada who are jurors will drive the vehicles and narrow their choices to finalists. Finalists for Car of the Year and Truck/Utility of the Year will be named Dec. 8 during an Automotive Press Association meeting.
