Over the last 106 years, General Motors has produced over a half-billion vehicles across all of its brands. To mark the occasion, the company is giving away new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu sedans to five lucky individuals.

During a special celebration on Monday, GM CEO Mary Barra and GM North America and Global Chevrolet President Alan Batey presented Iraqi war veteran Trent Brining with one of the five keys. Brining, a recipient of the Purple Heart, has undergone 23 surgeries on his arms and legs, and now works as a financial relationship specialist.

GM says it has produced more cars than any automaker by far. The production milestone equates to billions in commerce, payroll, infrastructure, and investments in communities around the world, including the most recent $174 million given to the Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas that will produce the new Malibu. Production will begin later this year, after GM installs a "Shake and Rattle" booth to simulate road conditions and identify noise sources to be fixed.
