General Motors Co. said Monday it will offer wireless smartphone charging in the 2015 Cadillac ATS and 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe to help address growing demand for charging devices in the car and eliminating the need for cords.

GM said the technology will be added to the Cadillac CTS and Escalade SUV at the end of 2014. A GM spokeswoman said 2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups will get the technology soon, while a company spokesman said the technology will be “deployed widely” across the company’s vehicles.

The Detroit automaker said its feature is compatible with Powermat, which allows a phone to sit on a rubberized mat to charge. In the ATS, the wireless charging feature is inside a storage bin behind a motorized instrument panel.
