General Motors is investing more than $500 million to improve its Arlington assembly plant, which means more jobs are on the way. GM is dedicating $200 million to a stamping facility that will press out components of the company’s upcoming line of new full-size SUVs, the Chevrolet Tahoe & Suburban, GMC Yukon & Cadillac Escalade.

The last shipment of massive equipment for the stamping plant arrived Friday. A 19-axle hauler delivered a large component of the plant’s final stamping press; the last of four massive shipments to complete GM Arlington’s new, 400-ton stamping presses.

The shipment started with a 550-mile trek from the Port of Houston through several communities in the sate. UAW-GM stamping plant employees whose jobs rely on the equipment, according to GM Arlington spokesperson Donna McLallen, happily greeted the drivers of the hauler.
