Having shaken the automotive world with its plans for a lightweight aluminum pickup truck, Ford is now turning its attention to bringing the same technology to cars.

It unveiled a concept version of its popular Fusion midsize car that weighs about the same as its smallest model, the Fiesta. Just as Ford wsa able to cut up to 700 pounds in the F-150, it was able to do about the same with the Fusion for this design study.

"Lightweighting our vehicles is incredibly important to us in terms of improving fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions," says Kumar Galhotra, vice president of engineering for Ford, in an interview. The Lightweight Concept, as it is being called, was done in conjunction with Samsung.
