There are key aspects of the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang that designers knew not to mess with, but which were improved for the sixth generation sports car.

Among them: the tri-bar taillamps and the not-really-for-people backseat.

"There are signature elements and the tri-bar is one of them," said Chris Svensson, Ford's design director for The Americas.

The tri-bar taillamps have been a strong element for some time. The past generation were very two-dimensional, Svensson said.

For the sixth-generation of the pony car, designers came up with three-dimensional tri-bar lights with sequential turn signals. The LED lights are set within a black out panel with a race track form around them.
