Auburn Hills— A different kind of assembly line involving autoworkers took place Tuesday at Chrysler Group world headquarters.

An estimated 260 salaried employees partnered with the Stop Hunger Now international hunger relief effort to package 70,000 meals to support school feeding programs in Brazil, organizers said.

The volunteer event had workers combining more than 7,000 pounds of rice, 2,900 pounds of soy and 350 pounds of vegetables into small packages also containing 21 vitamins and minerals.

“It’s a true volunteer effort,” said Brian Glowiak, a vice president of the Chrysler Foundation, who hoisted 50-pound bags of rice and soy to 12 work stations. From there, they were opened by other volunteers and bagged into separate meal portions.
