General Motors Co. said Monday it will offer this fall a 2016 Buick Encore Sport Touring model that gets special exterior design features and a new 1.4-liter turbocharged engine.

The Encore Sport Touring subcompact crossover has a winged rear spoiler, 18-inch aluminum wheels and door handles that are the same as the exterior color.

Under the hood, the new 1.4-liter turbo engine features direct injection that gives the crossover 11 percent more horsepower and nearly 20 percent more torque than the standard Encore engine. The new engine features 153 horsepower and 177 foot-pounds of torque. It gets a six-speed automatic transmission.

The engine also features the fuel-saving, stop-start technology that shuts off the engine automatically at stoplights.

“Encore is a driving force behind Buick’s expansion and a catalyst for introducing a new generation of customers to the brand,” said Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president of Buick, in a statement. “The all-new Encore Sport Touring broadens that base, giving customers more choices — along with more performance, more technology and more efficiency.”
