AAPC Statement on Signing of USMCA

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Governor Matt Blunt, president of the American Automotive Policy Council, today issued the following statement after President Donald Trump signed the USMCA:

"We commend President Trump and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer for negotiating and championing the enactment of this vital 21st century trade agreement between the U.S., Mexico and Canada.  The USMCA will serve as a model for future U.S. trade agreements with its vital components to address currency manipulation and the acceptance of vehicles built to U.S. regulatory standards.  It will help grow investment in the U.S. economy as a whole, especially the auto sector and its extensive manufacturing supply chain.

“We look forward to working with U.S. government officials to fully implement this agreement, including the new, significantly more stringent auto rules of origin.  We also look forward to having our counterparts in Canada approve this ground-breaking trade pact without delay to ensure that our implementation work can be completed efficiently and effectively."

The American Automotive Policy Council (AAPC) is a Washington, D.C. association that represents the common public policy interests of its member companies FCA US LLC, Ford Motor Company and General Motors Company.
