“That’s strong,” said Helio Castroneves, three-time Indy 500 winner, as he floored our 2014 Corvette Stingray in 4th gear over the Belle Isle Bridge. Relaxed in the right-hand seat, I glanced at the speedometer.

We were doing 110 mph.

Nirvana is a ‘Vette in the hands of one of the world’s best drivers. Castroneves and his fellow Indy Car jockey, Ed Carpenter, were in town Wednesday to promote the 2014 Chevrolet Belle Isle Grand Prix. But the real treat was getting these rocket pilots into the brand new Corvettes that Chevy had provided for the event.

Both Helio and Ed were behind the C7 Stingray pace car last May as it brought the 33-car Indy field to the green flag. But neither driver had ever been behind the wheel of the 460-horsepower supercar, on the shopping list of more than a few motorheads this Christmas.
