Jeep introduced its Renegade subcompact sport utility vehicle here Tuesday on the opening day of press previews for the 84th Geneva Motor Show. Information about the new “baby Jeep” had been leaked Sunday on the Internet, and multiple media outlets followed suit and posted photos and details about the model on Monday.

The Renegade, an essential component in Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ strategy of expanding the Jeep brand internationally, is being promoted as “designed in America and built in Italy.” The Renegade will be built at Fiat’s plant in Melfi, in central Italy; a sibling, the Fiat 500X, with which it shares a platform, will later go into production at the same plant. Gasoline and diesel engines for the vehicles will be sourced from the United States, Italy and Brazil. Both vehicles will be available with a 9-speed automatic transmission, and the Jeep will have manual and dual dry-clutch automatic options as well.
